Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge aims
In this class I have three knowledge aims. The first is help students master the useful new words and expressions in this passage, such as journal, fare, transport, Vietnam, finally, cycle, determined, altitude, and valley. The second is help students grasp some sentences pattern such as: dream of/about, persuade somebody to do something, and be determined to do something, as usual. The third is help students to learn about the usage of The Present Continuous Tense to express future actions.
2. Skill aims
In the class the teacher should develop students reading ability and let them learn to use some reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, and so on.
After the class students can use The Present Continuous Tense to express future actions.
3.Emotional aims
In the class the teacher should stimulate the students’ love for nature by getting them to know the greatness of a river. At the same time, develop the students’ learning interest of English.
Key Points
Get the important words and sentence patterns and master The Present Continuous Tense to express future actions.
Difficult Points
Develop the students’ learning interest of English.
Teaching Tools:Multimedia computer
Teaching Methods: Task-based teaching method and Communicative approach.
Teaching Procedures:
I. Lead-in
Ask students 3 questions:”Do you like traveling? Where have you ever been before? How did you get there?” And let some of the students answer these questions. After that show some kinds of transportations let them discuss which kind of transportation they would choose if they have a chance to go to the QingHai.

2. Pre-reading
Ask students discuss questions are as follow, working pairs.
1. Did you have some experiences travel with your sisters or friends?
2. Do you like traveling along a river?
After the discussion let 1 or 2 groups report the answer to the class.
3. While-reading
1). fast-reading
In this procedure, give the students a couple of minutes to go through the whole passage and finish the exercise 1and 2 in pages 56.
2). scanning-reading
Ask students answer the question and find the main idea or key sentences and finish the chart.
What are Wang Kun and Wang Wei going to do?
The main idea of this passage?
The topic sentences of this passage?
3). Careful-reading
4 students a group, to finish the task, read the map and the third paragraph to list the countries that the Mekong River flows through.
Suggested answers: The Mekong River go through these countries: China, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Vietnam
4)Post-reading
Ask students retell the story in the third person according to the chart.
5).Summary
Ask students summarize what they have learnt
6) Homework
Write a short passage about your own traveling experience.
